Chamber News – 04-09-2013

It’s April, and if you’re paying attention to the calendar, I don’t need to tell you that next Monday is April 15th, Tax Day, which is usually not a cause for celebration.   However, this year is different!   The Chamber and OBA are sponsoring “Tax Free Day” at participating merchants in Oberlin.   Look for signs in the windows of the Bargain Box Plus, Carman Computers, Custom Trophy, Oberlin Mercantile, Penn Avenue Boutique, Oberlin Automotive, and the Museum Gift Shop.  Buy locally at these stores, and the merchant will pick up the sales tax!    There are some limitations and exclusions, but check with the merchant to see how much you can save.    And, the best news is that there will be a Tax Free Day at these merchants on the 15th of each month, between now and November 15th.

Another date for your calendar is April 24th, Professional Assistant Day.   This year’s luncheon will be held at the Gateway.  Cost $15 per person.  Door prizes, music, fun – don’t miss it!  Chamber members will be canvasing your business for participation – don’t forget your most valuable employees!

Then, on Sunday, April 28th, the Sheriff Department and Emergency Management are sponsoring a Kansas Concealed Carry License class.   Call Linda Manning at 470-7297 for times of the class, location, and costs.  Spaces are still available.  Exercise your 2nd Amendment right – do it safely!

More events:   This Thursday, April 11th, at 1 pm, come join us at New To You, 104 S. Penn, for a ribbon cutting event celebrating this new business in town.  And then, about 1:45 pm, we’ll be going to Quality Plus Oil Field Services on Hwy 36, east of town, for another ribbon cutting.  It’s nice to see new businesses in town.  Please support them.

And there’s one more location to visit this month:  Oberlin’s Facebook page!   The Rocking R and Oberlin Mercantile are being highlighted.  Check out the great pictures of these stores, and the great new items being offered.   And watch Oberlin’s Facebook page in the coming weeks for more pictures and information on local stores.   Shop in town and save!
